The Spiritual Battle

King David writes:
For I hear the slander of many;
There is terror on every side.
They conspire against me
And plot to take my life.

But I trust in you, O Lord;
I say “You are my God, my times are in your hands.”

I have come to understand that my enemies are just as real as those that David had. They are those powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil that Paul describes in Ephesians. They are not called “powers” for no reason. They are strong and they are to be reckoned with. They conspire against us and want to ruin our lives. This is not paranoia; it is just facing the facts.

Often their strategy is to infiltrate our minds, causing us to slander ourselves in a kind of spiritual auto-immune disease, so our minds can conjure up every possible reason that failure will be eventual if not quick.

In David we see that after facing the hard facts, he has a mind change. He turns away from all that those enemies could do to him and declares his faith.

Learning from David, we can hear the slander those evil powers broadcast against us, and turn our minds to God saying “But I trust in you, O Lord, You are my God, my times are in your hands.”

In my book, Mind Change, power thought #25 reads

Don't resent the spiritual battle.

Be thankful you have the weapons to fight it.

Be glad you are on the winning side.

  1. Love it! And am an avid believer of we are what we choose (even if it is only the choice of attitude to what else is presently beyond our choice)

  2. "Slander ourselves"! Yes, and slander is sin. I allow myself to flagrantly sin against me. Wow, that opened my eyes. Thank you. Now I can test my thoughts and be more loving and nurturing towards myself!
